Rear Into Gear Appeal

This appeal has been launched to fund keyhole equipment for Grimsby and Scunthorpe bowel cancer and related surgery patients.

The Rear into Gear Appeal wants to raise £200,000 to purchase two new state of the art laparoscopic (keyhole surgery) theatre stacks at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby and Scunthorpe General Hospital.

The money will enable surgeons to perform the latest and most complex keyhole procedures for patients suffering from bowel cancer and bowel related conditions.

What are the benefits to patients?

Waiting times for surgery will be shortened as more equipment will be available.

Better optics means shorter theatre times.

More patients can be operated on - approximately 1,100 people will benefit over
five years with this new equipment. Additionally, there will be other surgeries able to use this equipment if required.

Recovery time can be reduced by up to a day.
Not as painful and intrusive.
Reduces scars and is not as traumatic
on tissue.

Keyhole surgery is less invasive for further surgery if it is required.

Hundreds of bowel cancer patients are likely to benefit each year. Patients with other bowel related conditions will also see improvements as the new equipment will be available to them during non-surgery days for the colorectal team.
