Local Charity donates more than £26,000 to Scunthorpe hospital

A local charity has donated more than £26,000 to buy equipment for various wards and departments at Scunthorpe General Hospital.

The Scunthorpe Hospital League of Friends, which was founded in 1948 and celebrates its 70th birthday alongside the NHS this year, has raised thousands of pounds for local patients, their families and staff since its inception. 

Its latest donations during 2017/18 have included: 

·         A child friendly saw for when children are having plaster casts removed

·         A shower trolley for the Disney ward to assist children with complex needs to have a shower more comfortably

·         Two ECG machines to enable staff to check a patient’s heart and electrical activity

·         Two Accuvein devices which help healthcare professionals locate and assess appropriate veins for safe and efficient IV access

·         Bedside fans to help keep patients cool 

·         A cough assist device to help clear patients airways

·         A reclining chair for the discharge lounge. It was purchased in memory of the League’s previous Treasurer, Harold Edwards.

League chairman Granville Staves said: “The League has worked tirelessly over the years to support patients and their families coming through the doors of Scunthorpe hospital. Our members are always honoured to be able to visit those wards where we have helped buy equipment.

“Our whole aim is to supplement the service provided by Scunthorpe Hospital for the health, welfare and comfort of patients’ and their families, and we will continue to work closely with The Health Tree Foundation to support wards and departments throughout the hospital.”
