BOOK PLEDGE FOR THE RAINFOREST WARD

Kate Lomas, from Mablethorpe, has made a donation worth £600 in Usborne books to the Rainforest ward at Grimsby’s Diana, Princess of Wales hospital. By making a ‘book pledge’ to local businesses, Kate was able to raise money and buy a range of literature from touchy-feely books for babies to detective novels for teenagers.

She said: “I am an independent Usborne book rep and wanted to do something which would help out the hospital. I am very passionate about reading, my children love books and I believe it helps broaden the imagination. I want to thank all the local businesses who supported my cause.”

Paula Staines, play specialist at the hospital, said: “We will be handing out the books to children over the Christmas period both on the Rainforest ward and in our assessment department.

“It is never an easy time for a family to have a child in hospital, but with kind donations like this it helps to make the experience less daunting.

“We are extremely grateful for Kate’s donation as we would not be able to provide these things on our own.”
