Thanks a million for legacy donation

A huge donation of more than £1million has helped transform heart services at Grimsby hospital.

The official charity for the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust, The Health Tree Foundation (HTF), received a donation of £1.2 million left in the will of a local man in 2018.

The £1million left to the charity by Mr Basil Glover, of Humberston, has allowed for a brand new cardiac unit to be opened at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital.

The renovation of two wards has been described as ‘cardiology without walls’ meaning all patients who require cardiology treatment can be treated in one place, regardless of their condition.

Formerly known as C1 Kendall and the Coronary Care Unit (CCU), the wards have been transformed and now form the integrated cardiology unit.

As a tribute to Mr Glover, who passed away in November 2016 at 97-years-old, and his late wife Margaret, the new unit has been renamed as C1 Glover.

Previously, patients who required cardiology care were transported between wards as and when treatment was required. This could be any time of the day or night. On the new unit, patients now experience less moving between wards. Treatment is administered quicker meaning patients stay in hospital for a shorter period of time.

Michelle Hailey, matron in medicine, said: “This amazing donation has allowed us to create a state-of-the-art integrated unit where we aim to treat all cardiology patients within one area.”

Charity manager Clare Woodard said: “Mr and Mrs Glover should be remembered always for their extraordinary kindness and generosity to our hospital. This just shows what a gift in a will can achieve for our patients in this community.”

Anyone wishing to leave a gift in their will can contact the Health Tree Foundation on 03033 304514. Gifts in wills can be left to any department at the hospital – very often people have a connection with a certain area. Gifts can be a fixed amount or a percentage of what you own.
