Donation of thanks after cancer treatment

Patients going through the diagnosis and treatment of cancer are to benefit from a generous donation from the Scunthorpe Lions Club.

The former Lions president Roy Mee helped raise £1000 to go towards a new clinic room at Scunthorpe hospital to express thanks after the Trust treated his wife was for cancer.

Lion Roy said: “My wife Jenny was diagnosed with cancer in 2013 and when people are given the news and going through treatment it’s devastating so any help we can give to those people going through that is worthwhile.”

The money raised by the Scunthorpe Lions Club will go towards setting up a clinic room in the hospital to be used when patients come in for their appointments and need things like check-ups and wound care.

Maxine Woolin, Macmillan clinical nurse specialist, said: “We don’t have a specific treatment room for this but it’s something that would really benefit our patients. We’ve got the space for it but it needs turning into a clinical environment with the right equipment and that’s what we hope this money can go towards.”

The local Lions groups donate regularly to The Health Tree Foundation, the charity for Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust which runs Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Goole hospitals.
