Football match raises thousands for local hospital

Global Logistics Football Club has teamed up with Nationwide Grimsby Branch to raise money for babies at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital.

A cheque for £4,500 was presented to staff nurses on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The money was raised from a fundraiser football match and a marathon run.

The football match was held on 16th July and saw players from Global Logistics FC play the match to raise money for NICU. All players have raised money by paying to take part and raised individual sponsorship.

This is the second time Global Logistics FC has had a charity football match for NICU – last year was very successful and they raised £4000.

After the success of last year Global Logistics decided to put the event on again– with an aim to surpass their amount raised last year. They are all over the moon that they have surpassed last year’s target by £500.

Money was also raised by Fay Fenwick from Nationwide Grimsby Branch; she ran the Paris Marathon and received sponsorship for her run.

After the football match everyone involved gathered at the Honest Lawyer on Ladysmith Road. They held a raffle for all the prizes that had been donated by local businesses.

An auction was also held for signed memorabilia, which included signatures from the 1966 World Cup. A signed football and shirt, which was donated by Grimsby Town Football Club, was also auctioned off.

Owner of Grimsby Cars Ltd, Mike Croft, made a significant donation towards the cause. Croft pledged to give 10% of all service invoices as a donation. Croft also had a collection box in the showroom.

Manager for Global Logistics FC, Dean Atkinson, said: “A few of the football players have had babies on the Neonatal unit; it’s very close to our hearts.

“This only happens thanks to the generosity of local businesses who have all donated so much. This amount of money wouldn’t be raised without their support. On behalf of everyone at Global Logistics, thank you to everyone involved!”

Ward manager on NICU, Emma Spicer, said: “Donations to the unit make a huge difference to the babies we take care of. We’re very grateful for the support we have received with this donation and really appreciate everyone involved in the fundraising. Thank you!”
