Grimsby 10k helps to achieve a better family room in Grimsby Hospital’s A & E Department

HTF was the chosen charity for the Dong Great Grimsby 10k in July which saw over 3000 runners take part.

One pound from every registration was donated directly to the HTF’s A & E Appeal.

The HTF’s 999 A&E appeal was launched to provide a makeover to the family room and courtyard in Grimsby. The room is used for families to say goodbye to their loved ones as well as a place for staff to break bad news.

The final total raised for the appeal was £7885.50 which could only have been achieved thanks to some key supporters who backed the appeal.

Abigail Codd, patient care coordinator, said: “The current room is not very appealing, so the improvements this money will provide will be very welcome”.

Local MP, Melanie Onn, grabbed her trainers, ran the route and raised over £1,100.

Councillor Stan Streeves, who is also a non-exec director of NLaG also ran the 10k, and contributed to the pot with a further £620.00.

The A&E Team jumped at the chance to run as a team and even Scrubs the Bear took part and crossed the finish line in an impressive 1 hr 41 minutes.

Scrubs would only run the 10k if he was sponsored and Tony from North Lincs Tyres very kindly donated £999 (plus a £1) for Scrubs to run in bib number 999.

Senior nurses, Melanie Graves and Joanne Loughborough joined in on the action and raised over £200.

Melanie said: “It was great to be part of the whole event. I do like running and was determine that Scrubs the Bear would not beat me!”

Another special thanks need to go to Wilson and Co, Grimsby, who provided the race with pens for the runners goodies bags plus a race vehicle.

The Wilson team also donned their running gear and helped to boost the total raised.

Lauren Alexander, community champion for HTF, said: “Wow, a massive thank you to all who took part in the Grimsby 10k this year without your generosity the granting of this wish would not be possible.

As a charity, we provide the extra above and beyond little things to our local NHS hospital and the improvements to this room will have a huge impact on the families that use it.

Lauren added: “We are extremely grateful to Nicola and Neil from Tape2Tape for the choosing us as their charity for the event and it’s been a fantastic experience from start to finish. Wilson & Co have been incredible with their support, along with Stan and Melanie for taking on the challenge. The A & E team do the incredible day in and day out so for them to help is fantastic.”
