Thank you for taking care of my brother

Two Grimsby siblings have said a massive ‘thank you’ to the high dependency unit (HDU) with a £1,000 donation for the great care their brother received in his final weeks.

Stephen Green and Dave Green lost their older brother Michael in January 2016. Michael’s illness meant that he had two stays on HDU at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital.

Stephen said: “When Michael became ill the second time, he said he just wanted to go back to HDU and be taken care of by Rachel the ward manager. He got what we wanted and it was good for us to know his last days where spent where he wanted to be.

“The care he received was so fantastic on HDU we wanted to do something to give back. Instead of flowers we asked for donations at Michael’s funeral and then we made it up to £500.

In addition to the £500 from the family the Artie White Foundation also donated £500. The Artie White Foundation raises money for the community of Grimsby and Cleethorpes.

HDU ward manager Rachel Beeby said: “We really appreciate donations like this from the family as it makes such a big difference to our unit.

“We will be using the money to buy an ‘Accuvein’, this device will make it easier to find patients’ veins as it has a special light within it that makes veins easier to see.”

Our fantastic donors help us to help…
