Hospital patients benefit from charity donations

Scunthorpe charity, the League of Friends have bought two important pieces of equipment for their local hospital.

Scunthorpe General Hospital League of Friends has purchased two ear nose and throat (ENT) scopes for the ENT clinic and a blanket warmer for the maternity ward.

Mr Ganapathy Dhanasekah, ENT consultant said, “We are extremely grateful for the support the League of Friends have offered in helping us to purchase two new nas-endoscopes. These scopes will help in the smooth running of the clinic and also important addition to voice clinics and rhinology clinics.”

Member of the League of Friends Donald Clark, who presented the scopes, said: “We are very pleased to help, we do what can for the hospital, we just need people to ask for help and we will do our best.”

Midwife Kendra Thomas, who accepted the blanket warmer, said: “We have been able to reduce the number of babies admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit with low temperatures as we now always have warm blankets on hand.

She added: “We can’t thank the League of Friends enough for their kind donation”

League of Friends treasurer Harold Edwards said: “We are really pleased to be able to supply equipment to benefit the wellbeing of newborn babies. It’s even better that it is cost effective too as it prevents babies having to be transferred to another ward to be treated and reduces stress for families.

Harold added: “We are always looking to fund things for the benefit of patients and staff wellbeing, it’s really important to us.”

Chairman of Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust Dr Jim Whittingham said: “These donations will make a huge difference to our patients. It’s another example of the long tradition of the League of Friends in raising funds for the hospital and making sure that the money is always used for a really good purpose. A really big thank you to the League of Friends and to all of the people who support them”

The League of Friends is on the lookout for new members to help with fundraising and making donations to the hospital. If you are interested please contact the Health Tree Foundation on hello@healthtreefoundation.org.uk
