Patients sit comfortably thanks to hospital charity

The busy outpatients department at Scunthorpe General Hospital now has 12 new comfy chairs in its waiting rooms thanks to the hospital’s official charity.

Admin support worker Debbie Key submitted a wish to the Health Tree Foundation to submit a wish. She said: “Some patients are struggling to get up from the chairs we already have, so to aid those patients and help them maintain their dignity we would like some chairs with arms.”

Weeks later the 12 new chairs have been distributed between three different areas of the outpatients department.

A patient who has used the new chairs, Jean Morwood, said: “The chairs are really comfortable and the arms make them a lot easier to get in and out of.”

Debbie added: “Most patients don’t like to ask for help if they are struggling to get up.”

The Health Tree Foundation has received more than 150 wishes since the charity launched in November 2015, and many more continue to be submitted.

Debbie said: “The Health Tree Foundation turned my wish into a reality so quickly. I was very impressed.”
