RAISE A CUPPA: The Health Tree Foundation launches ‘Big 7tea’ to celebrate the NHS turning 70

The official charity for the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust, The Health Tree Foundation, is asking you to raise a cuppa and celebrate our wonderful national health service for its upcoming 70th birthday.

The NHS Big7Tea will be a chance for people up and down the country to come together and toast 70 years of the NHS on Thursday 5th July.

Host your own tea party and invite friends, family and colleagues along to mark the occasion and support the vital work of NHS charities.

The humble cup of tea has long and proud associations with the NHS. Originally served to patients in traditional fine cups with saucers and side spoon, tea was considered an important aspect of patient satisfaction and recovery.

Tens of thousands of patients enjoy tea in NHS hospitals, clinics and GP surgeries across Northern Lincolnshire and Goole every day. Tea brings us all together. It breaks down social boundaries and like the NHS and NHS charities, is a symbol of comfort and community.

Victoria Winterton, Charity Manager at The Health Tree Foundation, said: “We’re so excited to be bringing this national campaign to our great local communities in Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Goole.

“Every year we are blown away by the generosity and kindness from people in our area for the NHS and we know this year will be no exception.

“This is an opportunity for everyone to celebrate all our hard work fundraising for and working in the NHS.”

There are more than 250 NHS charities across the UK. Most of them focus on helping our hospitals do more, whilst others support mental health trusts, community health trusts and ambulance trusts.

In recent years, NHS charities have funded major capital projects, pioneering research and medical equipment in hospitals helping patients access the best possible health care when they need it most.

The Health Tree Foundation provide the above and beyond equipment and experiences that are not within the Trust’s core expenditure. They are big enough to change things but small enough to care, listen and learn.

Just one example of their hard work is organising with Stagecoach for a dementia bus stop to be placed in a busy ward that acts as an area of safety and familiarity for dementia patients staying at the hospital.

The NHS Big 7Tea will raise awareness of the vital work of NHS charities and let the public know how to support them, for instance by making a donation or offering to volunteer.
