Scrubs the Bear to run the Great Grimsby 10k

He is calling on them to help raise funds for the town’s local hospital and pledge their cash if he pulls on his trainers and completes the Great Grimsby 10k race in July.

Organisers of the event have chosen The Health Tree Foundation (HTF) as its charity which means a £1 from every registration will go towards its coffers.

Money from the charity is spent on ‘wishes’ from patients, visitors and staff for such things as equipment and refurbishing relative and waiting rooms.

Proceeds from the 10k have been earmarked for the emergency care centre (A&E) to help renovate the family room and a courtyard area.

Dr Ashaolu said: “The family room is often where bad news is broken, and families gather to say their final goodbyes to loved ones. We want to make it more comfortable for people and The Health Tree Foundation has said it will help.”

A team of nine nurses, together with emergency care consultant Dr Oltunde Ashaolu, will be running the Grimsby 10K in July, to help raise money.

HTF charity champion Lauren Alexander said: “Scrubs the Bear was not going to let the staff take all the glory and he agreed he would also run!

“However, he has made the offer on one condition – that local businesses back him by pledging their support. He is calling on people to match the £5,000 that has already been raised.”

Lauren said: “There won’t be many bears running the race so we want local people to get behind what will no doubt be a hot and sticky experience for Scrubs. He has said it will be worth it if he can help families coming through our A&E.”

North Lincs Tyres have already kindly pledged the first £1,000!

Lauren added: “Help us make Scrubs the Bear debut in a 10k a reality by backing us in raising £5,000.”
