Daredevil staff will be taking the plunge to raise money for their departments at the hospital.

Nine staff from across Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust have signed up for a skydive at Hibaldstow Airfield on 23 May, organised by the hospital’s charity – the Health Tree Foundation. It will see them jump out of a plane at 15,000 feet!

Some of the staff work in the same departments and all of them will be raising money for things that will benefit the patient’s experience. Each staff member has committed to raising a minimum of £500.

Amanda Holmes, intensive care unit manager at Scunthorpe, who will be taking part in the skydive along with her colleagues, Zoe Kelley and Ved Ahotar, said: “It is my first time doing a skydive. It’s something I’ve always had on my bucket list but never ended up signing up for it.

“We are going to use the money to purchase equipment that will benefit patients.”

Emily Woods, Abby Cook and Emma Watts from the vulnerabilities team will also all be taking part in the skydive.

Emily said: “I feel really excited but nervous at the same time. This is the first time I have done a skydive. I saw it advertised and thought I’d love to do that. We want to use the money we raise to improve the wards and make them more dementia-friendly.”

Abby said: “I think it will be a good bonding experience for us as a team. It is nice that we’re able to do it together.”

Emma said: “We are going to do a raffle and a bake sale to raise funds. We want to use the money to improve the patient journey.”

Paris Fox, patient access administrator, said: “This is the first time I have done something like this. At the moment, I am excited but I know on the day I will be nervous. I am raising money for the Pink Rose Suite at Grimsby hospital. It is something that is close to my heart as my mum had breast cancer and was treated there.”

Emma Hartley, charity community champion, said: “It is fantastic that so many staff have signed up to take part in this skydive, which will raise vital funds for our hospitals. Good luck on the day!”
