Specialist equipment for maternity ward at local hospital

Mums to be at Grimsby hospital will benefit from a new birthing couch that has been donated by charity.

The Health Tree Foundation (HTF), the official charity of Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust, has bought the new equipment which cost £511 for the Honeysuckle ward.

Midwife Lynn Jefferson, who runs the ward, said: “I would like to say a big thank you to the charity for buying us the couch. It has a unique shape which helps obtain the most comfortable position during birthing, and provides a relaxing place for those precious first moments together after birth.”

The charity used money from its Little Lives fund, which aims to provide those little extras for children and their parents when they visit Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Goole hospitals.

Staff on Honeysuckle fundraised half towards the cost of the couch by taking part in the Glow in the Park Fundraiser in 2017.

HTF community champion, Laura Gooderham, said: “It’s great to see that monies we have raised can be put to good use to help expectant mothers who are due to have their child at Grimsby hospital.

“We are extremely grateful to everyone who braved the cold and took part in Glow in the Park where everyone’s hard earned fundraising has helped us to fund the birthing couch. We can’t thank everyone enough.”
