Footy fans support stroke unit

Scunthorpe United Official Supporters Club has chosen the stroke fund at The Health Tree Foundation as their charity of the year.

The stroke fund is the charitable fund for the stroke unit at Scunthorpe General Hospital and was chosen by the club after members and their families received excellent care on the unit.

The total raised from a variety of fundraising efforts throughout the last season was £616.30. On Boxing Day last year the members dressed up in Santa suits and Christmas jumpers to the away game to raise money and the final match saw them dress up again for the stroke unit.

Karen Lee, travel secretary, said: “The cause is so close to the heart of many of our members and we are pleased to be able to give back and support the healthcare the stroke team gives day in and day out.”

Tina Drewery, stroke unit manager, said: “It is very nice to be appreciated by the patients and their families. The money will go towards specialist equipment on the stroke unit.”
