Family show gratitude for excellent hospital care

A family have donated more than £600 to the stroke unit at Scunthorpe General Hospital in memory of their beloved father and husband, Geoff Thomson.

Geoff was taken by ambulance straight from Grimsby to Scunthorpe hospital on January 22, where he sadly passed away eight days later.

Geoff’s family asked for donations collected at the funeral to be donated to the stroke unit after being impressed by the compassion and care shown by the nurses during his stay.

Geoff’s daughter Debbie Hayward said: “My father received excellent care from all the nursing staff. That’s why we decided to donate to the ward, so they can continue the great work.”

The money will go towards the stroke funding zone, which is managed by the trust’s official charity the Health Tree Foundation to benefit stroke patients in the hospital.

Deputy ward manager Lynne Shackleton said: “We are ever so grateful for the family’s donation. Contributions such as this enable us to buy equipment, such as specialist chairs and cushions that enhance patient comfort on the ward.”

Patients, staff and the local community can now influence where charitable funds are spent by submitting a wish to The Health Tree Foundation. If you would like to do so, please visit: http://healthtreefoundation.org.uk/circle-of-wishes.
